Influenza Season - an Excel project
The United States has an influenza season, where more people than usual suffer from the flu. Some may develop serious complications and end up in hospital. The goal is to inform a medical staffing company on how to prepare and send temporary staff to each of USA 50 states, without under or overstaffing each state.

Key Manager’s questions:

-
Who is more vulnerable against the flu?
-
Which states are more affected by influenza?
-
How do we properly staff each state to reduce death rates?

Key Findings:

-
91.2% of deaths occurred between those aged 65 years and older. Within this age group, most deaths (56%) were related to those aged 85 years and older.
-
The states of California, Florida, New York and Texas were the most affected.
-
Almost half of deaths (45%) occurred during the cold winter months.
-
Forecast indicates a decrease of 3.5% in the number of victims.

Key limitations to this study:

-
There was no available data regarding the race/ethnicity of the victims, or their economical situation.
-
Pregnant women are also considered vulnerable against the flu. However, there was no data regarding the size of population of younger (and potentially pregnant) women, or if the deceased was male or female.
